Would you like a set of your own 6 pack abdominals to replace the love handles you already own?  If you are serious about losing abdominal fat in return for some lean, ripped abdominal muscles, you’ve come to the right place.  Let me show you where and how to get your own 6 pack abdominals!

First things first, the biggest thing currently sitting between you and a ripped stomach is your belly fat.

Your belly fat literally hides your abdominals.

The only way you can display your abdominal muscles is to reduce your overall body fat.  This point is crucial!  Most people believe that by solely working or targeting their abdominal muscles they can develop a six pack.

Well in reality they are wrong. Abdominal training alone is not enough.

If they haven’t already got a six pack, it is because of their belly fat, not because their abdominal muscles aren’t big enough!  Losing abdominal fat can be difficult, and that is why so many men and women struggle in their quests for abs to be proud of.

But what about abdominal training, are crunches and sit-ups and other abdominal exercises  a waste of your time?

Working your abs in conjunction with reducing your body fat will lead to a stomach with more abdominal definition.  But I would say that performing hundreds of sit-ups or crunches is not the best way to target your abdominals in any case.  Yet so many people still buy abs exercisers and crunch machines in the belief that they will develop great abs as a result!

So what do you actually need to do to get a set of great 6 pack abdominals?

My personal abdominals work out consists of three elements:

  • a low fat diet of natural foods
  • regular aerobic exercise
  • very targeted high intensity weight training

All three elements are vitally important to losing abdominal fat and adding to your muscle mass and definition.  Let me briefly talk you through each element.

Firstly, I have already spoken about the necessity to reduce your body fat.  By eating a low fat diet of natural products you will assist that process.  You need to avoid processed foods that are typically high in sugars, saturated fats and the wrong types of carbohydrates.  Stick to lean meats, poultry and fish to give your body the protein and vitamins your muscle needs to grow, and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.

Try and ensure your daily calorie intake is less than your use up, and try and eat complex carbohydrates such as oatmeal and brown bread instead of potatoes and white bread.  Think of it as a change of diet rather than as a diet as such, that way it will be easier to stick to longer term.

Secondly, regular aerobic exercise will help you burn your excess fat.  Personally I prefer running, but it really is down to personal preference.  Whatever you do it is important to get your heart rate up for prolonged periods of time to get your metabolism into gear, in particular in to fat burning mode!

Finally, I use weight training once per week.  That’s right, I only work out with weights once a week.  I do though lift heavy to increase the intensity of the workout.  Lift heavy, but with fewer reps really stresses the muscle, which causes them to grow bigger and stronger.

Don’t just target your abdominals.  It is important to work your whole body.  Start with the larger muscle groups.  The larger the muscle, the more your metabolism will be increased, and in return the more fat you will burn and for longer.  Therefore working your whole body with carefully selected exercises to target all your main muscles (including your abs) will lead to a set of 6 pack abdominals to be proud of, plus the rest of your body will look good too!
